Queen Bees @ HOTM

On Sunday 26 May our Queens Bees, the Maccabi FC women’s team, had the privilege of playing the Melbourne Victory Afghani Womens Team (MVAWT) at the Home of the Matildas.

(MVAWT was formed when the Afghani national women’s team escaped to Melbourne from Afghanistan when the Taliban took over.)

Our Bees were thrilled to have such an opportunity to play on what is a professional field with a true stadium behind them. A field that only days earlier was trained on by the Newcastle Utd FC EPL team. These are the sort of games that any footballer would aspire to in their early careers.

Our Maccabi women certainly held their own in the first half by going in at half time 0 – 0 despite some missed opportunities on both sides. Our goal keeper, Nicole McMahon, particularly stood up to the best that the Victory girls could throw at her, to keep a clean sheet for the first half.

In the second half MVAWT made some tactical changes that our Bees couldn’t keep up with and in the end lost the game 3 – 0. Still, the club is proud of our ladies for playing up to the semi-professional standard that their opposition is.

We look forward to the rest of the season and all the opportunities that will arise from that.

Go Maccabi! Go Bees!
