Today at the A-League match between Melbourne Victory FC and the Central Coast Mariners, spectators witnessed something truly unique.

A couple of weeks ago, our community partner, Melbourne Victory FC, reached out with a special request: could we assemble a group of young players aged 8 to 10 to participate in a halftime match? But this wasn’t just any standard halftime game. It was a trial for an exciting, high-energy concept already popular in other parts of the football world—a mass squad of kids taking on three veteran professionals.

When halftime arrived, around 50 eager young footballers from Maccabi FC and Manningham FC lined up on the pitch to face off against Bruno Fornaroli, Leigh Broxham, and Nick Ansell.

And off they went!

You might assume 50 players could easily overpower three, but navigating such a crowded pitch and finding space to pass is no simple task. On the flip side, while the Victory veterans possessed world-class skill, they had to thread the ball past a wall of 50 determined defenders!

Just two minutes in, Manningham players struck first, sending a wave of delight through the crowd. Victory quickly responded, with veteran Leigh Broxham—stepping outside his usual defensive role—scoring a crisp equalizer. The ball zipped across the field in wild, chaotic fun until, with only seconds remaining, Maccabi players slotted home the winning goal.

Final Score: Kids 2 – MVFC Veterans 1.

The magic didn't end with the final whistle. The kids relished every moment of sharing the pitch with their heroes, posing for a celebratory group photo, and walking away with glowing smiles and memories that will spark schoolyard chatter for weeks to come.

From a Maccabi perspective, one of the most rewarding moments came via a post-match message from Melbourne Victory:

"Your club has fantastic representatives, mate—you should be very proud."

We could not agree more. We are immensely proud of our young players & families and the spirit they displayed on the big stage.

A special thank you goes to Jack and the entire community liaison team at Melbourne Victory FC for extending such a memorable invitation. It was a halftime spectacle that everyone involved will cherish for a very long time.
