A Reminder of the Good Around Us

Last week, Maccabi FC Caulfield was recognised as a finalist in the Inclusive Volunteering category at the Victorian Volunteering Awards.
The award celebrates organisations that create opportunities for more people to participate, contribute and belong.
Walking into the room to meet the other finalists was really special. There is a lot of darkness, anger and negativity in the world.
Then you enter a room filled with people who give their time for some of the most beautiful causes and communities, almost always without recognition, simply because they want to help others and strengthen their communities.I found the entire morning incredibly emotional.
It was a beautiful reminder that there is still so much kindness, generosity and selflessness around us.
Our club is full of people who coach, manage teams, organise equipment, answer messages, run events, solve problems and quietly do hundreds of jobs that most people never see.
Ultimately, being at Maccabi is about much more than football. It is about giving our kids somewhere they belong a place where friendships are formed, families connect and everyone feels a part of something so much bigger than themselves.
A very special thank you must go to Maccabi FC parent Shalom, who took the time to nominate us.
None of us volunteer for recognition. Most of the work happens quietly behind the scenes. But for someone to take time out of their day not only to say thank you, but to nominate the club for an award, is really, a beautiful gesture.
Shalom, thank you. It means a great deal to us.
And while Maccabi FC Caulfield may be the name on the finalist certificate, that recognition belongs to every person who gives their time to this club.
You are seen. You are appreciated. Without you, this club would not exist. We also need more people to get involved.
That does not have to mean a huge commitment. It might be an hour, a professional skill, helping with an event, sponsorship, communications, administration or one particular project. There are also plenty of opportunities for those who want to do more.
Yes, it takes work. But it is incredibly rewarding.Congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients at the Victorian Volunteering Awards.
The stories in that room were a wonderful reminder of how much good people are doing every day.
And to every volunteer at Maccabi FC: thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
You help make our club what it is, and you help make the world around us a little brighter.
Ari Singer,
President Maccabi FC Caulfield
